Personal Training · Pickering

Pickering trains here.
Twenty minutes west.

We're not a Pickering gym — we're a private, appointment-only training facility in Scarborough, straight down the 401. Enough people make that drive from Pickering, Ajax and Whitby that it's worth explaining why.

Getting Here

The honest version of
the commute.

Let's deal with the obvious objection first, because every Pickering client raises it before they book.

There are gyms closer to you. Plenty of them. If what you want is access to equipment and a monthly membership, drive five minutes and save yourself the trip — we'd tell you the same thing on the phone.

What we offer isn't a gym membership. It's a coach.

Every session is one-on-one, by appointment, in a private facility. Nobody is waiting for a machine, nobody is sharing your coach's attention, and nothing about your hour is left to whether the place happens to be busy.

The route

We're at 21 Progress Ave, Unit 7, just off Highway 401 in Scarborough. From central Pickering it's a straight run westbound — join at Whites Road or Brock Road and you're here in roughly twenty minutes outside peak hours. Coming from Bay Ridges or West Shore adds a few minutes at the front; from Brock Ridge or Duffin Heights the 401 is right there.

Progress Avenue is a business park rather than a retail strip, which means free on-site parking and no circling for a spot. Realistically the drive back east during afternoon rush is the slower direction, which is why most Durham clients book either side of it.

Why appointment-only changes the maths

A drive to an open-access gym is dead time plus a queue for the machine you wanted. A drive to a booked session isn't. You arrive, your coach has your programme ready, the equipment is free, and you leave when the work is done.

Clients tell us the twenty minutes ends up cheaper than the forty-five they used to lose to a busy gym five minutes from the house.

What You're Driving For

Three things you
won't find closer.

If any of these matter to you, the 401 is worth it. If none do, we'd genuinely rather you trained somewhere local than paid us for a drive.

01 — Coaching

A coach, not a floor pass

Every session is one-on-one with the same coach. No rotating staff, no split attention, no programme handed over on an app and left to you. Your plan is written for your body, your history and your schedule.

02 — Equipment

Machines you can't train on locally

Our floor is a curated collection of rare, imported resistance equipment, selected for engineering rather than price. Several pieces aren't in another gym in Canada. See the collection.

03 — Privacy

The gym, to yourself

Appointment-only means no crowds, no waiting, no audience. For a lot of clients — especially people early in the process, or coming back after time away — that's the thing that makes them keep showing up.

Pickering Clients

Who makes
the drive.

Our Durham clients are not one type of person, but they tend to share a reason for looking outside their own city:

  • Commuters already heading west. If you drive into Toronto for work, we're on the way rather than out of it — a session before or after the commute costs almost no extra travel.
  • People who've tried the local gyms. Often several. Usually the issue wasn't the facility, it was that nobody was actually coaching them.
  • Returning after a long gap, or after an injury. A private floor and a coach who adjusts the load session by session is a very different experience from a busy gym.
  • Competitors and serious lifters. Amer holds an IFBB pro card and coaches contest prep; that's not something most suburban gyms can offer.

You can see the range of starting points in the transformations, and what clients say about the coaching in the reviews.

Pickering questions.

Do you have a gym in Pickering?

No. Hammer Fitness has one facility, at 21 Progress Ave, Unit 7 in Scarborough, just off the 401 west of Pickering. We'd rather say that plainly than let you find out after you've searched for an address in town.

How far is it from Pickering?

Roughly twenty minutes westbound on the 401 from central Pickering outside peak hours, joining at Whites Road or Brock Road. Free on-site parking, so no hunting for a spot at this end.

Is it actually worth driving that far to train?

Depends what you want. For access to equipment, no — train locally. For private one-on-one coaching, a curated equipment floor and a session where nothing is shared or queued for, most of our Durham clients say yes. Book the free consultation and decide after you've seen the place.

What times can I train?

Sessions are by appointment, so times are agreed with your coach rather than fixed to a class schedule. Most clients driving in from Durham book either side of rush hour, which keeps the 401 quick in both directions.

Do you offer online coaching instead?

Yes, if the drive genuinely doesn't work for you. It's a different product — remote programming and check-ins rather than hands-on coaching — but it's a real option for people outside a sensible driving radius. Raise it on the call and we'll be straight about which suits you.

What does it cost?

Programmes are built individually, so pricing depends on session frequency and what you're working toward. The consultation is free and carries no obligation — get in touch and we'll give you a straight number.
