Jase Stevens coaches the life you actually have, not the one the plan assumes.

Personal training and body composition coaching at Hammer Fitness in Scarborough. Jase came here as a client in 2012 and has coached on this floor since 2017 — after four years of building a competition physique out of hotel rooms, on ten- to sixteen-hour railway shifts, in a different city every week.

Jase Stevens — body composition coach at Hammer Fitness

Resistance training expert · Fitness professional · Body composition coach · Fitness model & sponsored athlete · ECS certified · MED Method

Jase coaches on the private floor at Hammer Fitness in Scarborough, one client at a time, by appointment. No classes, no drop-ins, no floor full of strangers.

The work is body composition: more muscle, less fat, and the strength that comes with both. Resistance training and nutrition are the two levers, and neither is run off a template.

He has been part of Hammer Fitness since 2012, first as a client, and has coached here since 2017. In between he built a physique good enough for the IFBB North American Championships — while working one of the least training-friendly jobs in the country. That is the reason to train with him: Jase has never believed a client’s life should bend around the programme, because he spent four years proving the opposite.

He has already trained around a worse schedule than yours

Before he coached, Jase worked for Canadian National Railway as a signals and communications technician. The job meant ten- to sixteen-hour shifts, days and nights, and a different city every week — living out of hotel rooms, finding a new gym on arrival, and meal-prepping a week of food on a hotplate and a portable BBQ.

He did that for four years, and came out of it in the best shape of his life and on a national stage.

This is the part that matters for a client. Most programmes fail because they were written for somebody with a fixed gym, a fixed schedule and a kitchen. Jase has no patience for that kind of plan and no interest in telling a shift worker they lack discipline. He has done it the hard way and knows exactly which corners can be cut without costing the result — and which ones cannot.

A plan that only works in a good week was never a plan. It was a wish list.

A client here before he was a coach

Jase joined Hammer Fitness as a client in 2012, the year the business started. He moved to the other side of the floor as a coach in 2017, and has coached here since — which makes him one of the longest-standing people in the building.

Fourteen years inside one gym is unusual in this industry, and it shows in how he handles a client who is stalling. He has been the person paying for the sessions. He knows what somebody is actually thinking when they miss a week, and he knows that the honest answer to a flat month is almost never try harder.

Alongside the floor, Jase helped build the lifestyle coaching side of the business with founder Amer Kamra — now Hammer Fitness Online — so the coaching runs both in person in Scarborough and remotely for clients who are not in the city.

Coaching happens inside the set

A programme written well and executed badly is a programme that does nothing. That is the whole argument for training in person, and it is how Jase runs a session.

A rep that drifts gets corrected while it is still happening — not in a message afterwards, not at the next check-in. Position, tempo and range are held to a standard, and load only moves up when the execution has earned it.

The result is that a client’s numbers mean something. When the weight on the bar goes up, it went up because the same movement got stronger, not because the movement got sloppier.

Effort is easy to produce and easy to waste. Execution is the part that pays.

Sessions run on the private training floor at Hammer Fitness. There is no queue for equipment and no audience, which is most of the reason a beginner can be corrected properly here and an advanced lifter can actually load something.

What the work actually is

Four things, run properly, for long enough to count.

Training

Resistance training, written down

Progressive load on movements a client can execute well. Every session is recorded, so progression is a decision made from data rather than from how the last workout felt.

Nutrition

Enough protein, honest calories

Protein set high enough to build with and a total intake set where the client can hold it. Food is chosen around the week that actually exists, not the week that would be convenient.

Body composition

The scale is not the score

The target is the ratio — more muscle, less fat. Bodyweight on its own hides both, which is why it is never the only number being tracked.

Method

ECS and the MED Method

ECS certified and trained in the MED Method, the minimum effective dose system every Hammer Fitness programme runs on. The least work that still produces the change.

Shift work & travel

Training without a fixed gym

Nights, rotating shifts, hotels, job sites. Jase built a national-level physique under exactly those conditions and writes programmes that survive them — including which sessions to protect when the week falls apart.

Food

Eating is not a punishment

No penance cardio for a bad meal, and no moral scoring of food. A single meal is not what decides a result, and treating it that way is what turns a diet into something a person eventually has to escape.

On stage

The credential behind the coaching, not the point of it.

Jase is a fitness model, a sponsored athlete and a Men’s Physique competitor. He has taken his own physique to a national stage, which is why he can tell a client honestly what a given standard actually costs — and, more often, why they do not need to pay it.

  • IFBB North American Championships, Men’s Physique Class F — 4th, 2016
  • IFBB North American Championships, Men’s Physique Class F — 5th, 2017
  • Caribbean Grand Prix Pro Qualifier, Men’s Physique Class D — 7th, 2018
  • WBFF Montreal — 2nd, 2013

Most of the people Jase coaches will never step on a stage and are not trying to. Contest prep is available for the few who want it; for everybody else the stage experience simply means the person writing the programme has been through the whole range and knows where the useful part ends.

The minimum effective dose

Every programme Jase writes runs on the MED Method — the system Amer Kamra built in 2024 and teaches to the whole Hammer Fitness team through the Elite Coaching System.

The principle is simple and unfashionable: find the least training and the least dietary restriction that still produce the change, and do that. Not the most a person can tolerate. The least that works.

It matters because the failure mode in this industry is not laziness — it is prescribing six days a week and 1,200 calories to somebody with a job, and then calling them undisciplined in week three. Canada’s 24-Hour Movement Guidelines put the adult minimum for muscle-strengthening work at twice weekly. Most people are not failing because they trained too little; they are failing because they were handed a plan nobody could keep.

So the programme starts at the smallest dose that moves the needle and goes up only when the client has earned more and can carry more. That is the whole method, and it is why plans here are usually shorter than people expect.

Where he coaches

Jase coaches at Hammer Fitness, Unit 7 — 21 Progress Ave in Scarborough. Sessions are one-on-one or semi-private, by appointment, on a private floor with no drop-ins and no classes. Open 5am to 11pm, seven days a week.

The gym is a short drive from Markham, North York and Pickering, and the early and late hours exist so a session fits either side of a working day.

Common questions

Who does Jase work with?

Anyone whose goal is body composition — losing fat, building muscle, or both. Beginners and experienced lifters both train on this floor, and he takes on a particular number of shift workers and people who travel for work.

My job makes training almost impossible. Can this work?

It is the situation he knows best. Jase spent four years training for national-level competition while working ten- to sixteen-hour railway shifts in a different city every week, and programmes accordingly.

Do I need to be fit before I start?

No. The programme starts from what you can currently do well and is built up from there. Arriving unfit is the normal starting point, not a disqualifier.

How often would I train?

As little as the goal allows. Under the MED Method the frequency is set to the smallest dose that still produces the change, then raised only if the goal requires it.

Is nutrition included?

Yes. Training and nutrition are coached together, because a resistance training programme without enough protein and honest calories behind it will not change body composition.

Is it one-on-one or a class?

One-on-one, or semi-private with two to four people and one coach. Hammer Fitness does not run classes or drop-in memberships.
